The Tralee BC Team lining out in the A2/3 race in Kanturk for the Corkman 3-Day is:
Cathal Moynihan, Thomas Sheahy and Peter White.
Patrick White will represent the club in the U12 race.
Stage 1 took place on Saturday over 100km of the Kanturk-Freemount-Newmarket-Kanturk circuit. Simon Ryan of the Visit Nenagh team won the bunch sprint with Cathal finishing in 15th place and Thomas 32nd both same time as the winner.
Stage 2 on Sunday morning was a 8km time trial. Thomas unfortunately picked up an ankle injury prior to the event and had to withdraw from the event. Cathal set a very impressive time of 11.04.11 and finished 7th in the stage and is now up to 6th overall just 16 seconds back.
Stage 3 took the riders to Banteer for 5 laps of the circuit used in the Banteer CC races from a couple of years ago. After 70km racing Matt Slattery, Killarney CC as part of a 3 man breakaway took the stage win with the main group finishing just 2 seconds down. Cathal finished in 10th place and maintains his 6th place overall still just 16 seconds off the leader Alan Galalvan of Slaney CC. Cathal is the 2nd placed A3 rider overall. With 30 riders within 1 minute of the leader, todays final stage will be an exciting one. Best of luck to Cathal and Peter.
Stage 4 today was 90km. Strong winds and an uphill finish contributed to a tough’s day racing. With so many riders in contention there were plenty of attacks from early on. However the main attack of the day with 3 riders contained our own Cathal Moynihan with Dermot Redford and Simon Ryan. Cathal lying 6th overall went for the race outright today and was best placed out of the three breakaway riders and was race leader on the road when the gap opened up but unfortunately the break was caught on the last lap. Cathal still managed to finish within the main group and finished 8th overall. Congratulations to Cathal from all club members and continued success for the remainder of the season.
In the U12 race Patrick White rode strongly all weekend and finished 8th overall out of the 16th competitors and congratulations to him.
